Call for Applications : Call for applications for copy editors

Submission deadline: 20 February 2017

Join the GJSS editorial team as copy editors

The Graduate Journal of Social Science (GJSS) is a well-established, peer-reviewed, open access, social science journal with an international and interdisciplinary readership. The journal publishes three thematic issues a year that include academic papers, book reviews, and also photography, poetry and creative writing pieces. We welcome submissions by PhD, MPhil and MA students, as well as by early career and more senior academics.

We are seeking applications for copy editors from current PhD/MPhil/MA students who will be in postgraduate study for at least two years from the application deadline. We are seeking 2-3 copyeditors to join our editorial team for a 2-year term. Responsibilities and tasks include:

  • Reading approved manuscripts and correcting for spelling and grammatical errors (fluency in English is necessary).
  • Ensuring that submissions are correctly referenced in accordance with the APA style (applicants must have an advanced level of familiarity with the APA style).
  • Coordinating with the rest of the editorial team to ensure these tasks are completed in line with proposed publication dates and timelines. Flexibility and willingness to work with (mutually agreed) deadlines is an essential part of this position.

This position can help you gain valuable experiences in academic writing and editing, as well as being part of an international journal. Copyeditors receive credit for their work in each journal issue, and are also acknowledged as editorial team members on the journal website. Please note that all our editorial team positions are purely voluntary.

To apply, please send a letter (no longer than one page) to editors-in-chief Alankaar Sharma and James Beresford at editors@gjss.org by 20th February 2017, describing your interest and suitability for this position (previous copyediting experience is desirable but not necessary). In your email, please include the subject line as “Application for copyeditor position”.
